The POCC was founded in 1997 by Lisa Pacheco, DO and Donald Hankinson, DO to provide osteopathic care to children whose families could not afford insurance. They then gathered a group of osteopathic physicians from the southern Maine area, who committed themselves to giving these children access to this more natural approach to healt hcare.

Although osteopathic care is an approach that addresses a broad spectrum of health issues, the POCC does not provide primary care for our patients. All children still need to have a pediatrician or family medicine doctor to provide those services. Children can be referred to the POCC by these providers or by any health care professional. But a referral is not required to be seen.

This gentle osteopathic approach can be helpful for a wide-range of problems including: birth trauma and cranial asymmetries; nursing difficulties; ear infections; colic, constipation and other digestive disorders; respiratory problems including asthma; learning & behavioral issues including sleep; headaches and problems with vision or hearing; and physical or emotional trauma.

A $15 donation per child is suggested but is not required to receive care.

The clinic is held on Friday mornings at the Center for Grieving Children, 555 Forest Avenue, Portland, Maine
